As you may have noticed there’s been a bit of a change on the website recently, this is because I was recently reminded that if you want to be known for something more then you need to make that happen. It hasn’t been a case of focusing on the wrong thing in photography but more of not focusing on anything direct at all, this needed to change. In this case that meant giving everything a bit of a darker make over while also showing other things I enjoy that aren’t necessarily dark in subject, ie. Documentary photography. After much digging and plotting I’m going back to my roots in order to show you all the sort of artwork I want to show and sell. Some people may like it and others may not but that is up to them, either way from now on I’ll be advertising my darker work, whether they’re prints or creative portraits. I hope you guys enjoy the content and to remember if you’re feeling a little lost, just take some time and think about the reason you decided to do what you do.
Here’s a popular question among photographers. What is your opinion on digital manipulation? There are people out there who believe a photograph is only a photograph if it is completely untouched and straight from camera, even though images have been manipulated since the invention of dark rooms with dodging and burning. However, that is their opinion, do you share that opinion? If so, that’s fine because what kind of world would it be if we all had the same opinions? As you may have noticed by now, I’m not that kind of person. I really enjoy experimenting with all sorts of manipulation, in-camera, digital or on the print itself. This year has been a time when I’ve been learning more about Photoshop and the things you can do with it. Manipulations can bring your image to life in a way you never thought about and can really make you think about taking it to the next level. It’s very early days yet with Photoshop and all the bizarre things it has to offer but that’s the joy of experimenting. Here is just a small variety of different manipulations that have been made this year.
